Welcome to Quinta Japonica

the perfect destination for a peaceful Algarve holiday

Home page

Quinta Japonica is a private villa set in the Algarvian countryside. It is situated on a hill (reputedly hand made by the Romans) 3km from Sao Bartholemeu de Messines - a small country market town. The villa has a large private swimming pool set in a landscaped garden with small seating areas for those who wish to "Get away from it all" or to curl up with a book. The garden in total is approx. 5 acres, part is used for growing a selection of organic fruit trees and olives, some areas are landscaped and others left natural. There is an ornamental lake with water lillies, goldfish, doves, a duck and visiting turtles. There are seating areas on the island and around the lake. The area surrounding the villa is ideal for walking, bird watching, photography, sketching or just observing the local inhabitants carrying out their daily tasks in much the same way as their ancestors did many years ago. A car is essential to get the most out of your holiday. The larger tourist towns of Albufeira, Portimao and Vilamoura can be reached within 20-40 minutes. Faro and Lagos a little longer. We are situated 50 minutes from Faro airport. The villa has a large selection of games, videos, a radio cassette CD player should you wish to bring your own music collection. Satelite TV is also installed.

Free WiFi should you need to check your emails on your laptop.

S.B. de Messines On market day, usually the last Monday of the month, some of the older members of the community can be seen riding into town on their donkeys. Leather shoes and handbags are in abundance at reasonable prices. For those interested in boats, their are large marinas at Vilamoura, Albufeira and Lagos.

Silves Once the capital of the Algarve, Silves is only 15-20 minutes drive away and well worth a visit with a new cork museum, many types of restaurant, a cathedral and castle with walls illuminated at night. Boat trips up the river from Portimao to Silves can be made with a stop of approx. 2 hours for sightseeing or lunch and then return to Portimao with the tide.
